Perilla shrub or basil is a strongly branched plant 40-140 cm high, green and spicy-aromatic. In our country it is more often grown as an ornamental and oilseed plant. The color of the plants is green, pink-purple, red, and green plants have more delicate and juicy leaves, although less decorative. It is light- and heat-loving, prefers loose, rich garden soils. It is cultivated by seedlings and sowing in the ground in the southern regions. It also does well in pot culture in winter. Perilla leaves are “living pills” - a wonderful antioxidant that prolongs life. They are incredibly rich in calcium, potassium, magnesium, iron. Due to the essential oil, it is an excellent spicy additive to salads, meat and fish. They can be dried, canned for later use and used for the same purposes in winter.
