Perennial ornamental, medicinal and spicy plant, 80-140 cm tall. All parts of the plant have a strong anise aroma. The flowers are blue, collected in dense inflorescences at the tops of the shoots, flowering is long (1-2 months).
Lofant can be used for landscaping flower beds, creating decorative fences. Seeds are sown in open ground in April; at the end of May, seedlings are planted in a permanent place according to the 25x70 cm scheme.
Lofant does not tolerate shading well, in the summer it needs 4-5 waterings. The plant grows better on loose fertile soils. In the first year it blooms in September, in the second and subsequent years in June-August. Essential oil has antibacterial activity. The smell of lofant leaves helps to cleanse the airways and alveoli of the lungs from dust and microorganisms. As a result, the supply of oxygen to all tissues of the body improves, metabolic processes are accelerated.
Lofant is also used as a valuable spice on its own or in combination with other spicy-flavoring plants. Dry crushed leaves and inflorescences are added to meat, fish and vegetable dishes. Very tasty and healthy tea with the aroma of lofant, catnip and lemon balm.
