Calendula officinalis is a herbaceous annual with an erect, branched stem at the top, 40-70 cm high. Flowers are from straw-yellow to red-orange, collected in apical inflorescences - baskets. It has a long flowering period (from the end of June to autumn frosts). The growing season is 65-75 days. The fruit is an achene, ripens in August. The plant is not demanding on growing conditions. It grows and develops well in lighted areas, provided with moisture.

Calendula officinalis has highly pronounced bactericidal properties against many pathogens, especially staphylococci and streptococci.

Calendula-based preparations are used to treat burns, wounds, gargle for sore throats, and the oral cavity for stomatitis.
